What does IRLA stand for? Independent Reading Level Assessment

Tracking Steps:  IRLA logs will be in students' take home folders behind their daily behavior calendar. This log should be kept in their folder and  returned to school each day. At home you can track steps with your child by circling the house for every 15 minutes read, writing the date, and initialing all steps. Every 15 minutes read with your child counts as one step. It is recommended that students read 30 minutes each night, meaning two steps on their tracking sheet.

Medals: For every 100 steps, students will receive an IRLA medal from the school. Students will also hear their name on the morning announcements for each medal received.

Power Words: Power Words are high-frequency words that are used often in books. Each day in class, students will be introduced to a new Power Word to expose them to these high-frequency words. Please continue practicing these words at home as it will benefit their reading. Flashcards are highly effective and can be used in a fun way to help students memorize these words.
