March 2011

Dear Students and Parents,

As you know, New York Statehas adopted new Learning and Performance Standards that have increased thedemands placed on students.  Graduationrequirements have increased the expectations and the workload necessary to earna New York State High School Diploma. It is important that you carefully reviewthe program for the 2011-2012 school year to be sure that you meet the newrequirements.

Parents, we appreciate that yourhard-earned tax dollars fund these required courses as well as the electivesoffered at Eden Jr. Sr. High School. Students, we encourage you to take advantage of these offerings bychoosing the most challenging courses possible to better prepare you for postsecondary education (when you pay for coursework) as well as to develop skillsrequired in the workplace and in our competitive global economy.  We will continue our minimum creditrequirements for all students in grades 9 through 12.  Seniors will be expected to take at least 6.5 academic credits during their senior year IF they do not participate in averifiable internship experience or provide a documented letter from theiremployer stating the hours they are working. This policy is in the best interest of your children and our studentsand we ask your help in its implementation.

Use this curriculum guide to helpyou understand the course offerings at Eden Senior High School.During the months of March and April, students will review and finalize their course requestsfor the 2011-2012 school year.  It iscritical that you review the information in this Curriculum Guide beforechoosing your courses. We will try to honor individual courserequests for each student; however, initial selection of courses may be altered due toenrollments or staff availability. It is our hope that this guide will providethe answers to most of your curriculum questions.

Please contact the guidanceoffice at 992-3601/992-3608 for any additional information or clarification.

Sincerely,
